Data Recovery Effort: Update 1

Today many thousands of user accounts were restored successfully… and more!

I am still working very hard to recover from the database loss. If you don’t know what I am talking about I encourage you to read my post about the incident:

Outage Update

Also, if you haven’t read it already, please read my data recovery plans:

Data Recovery Effort

The script took longer to run than I anticipated, but, according to all records I have available, every user account that was on our site when we had our unfortunate database incident has been restored. I was also able to update recent email addresses for accounts that were restored from the December 2016 backup that was used to bring the site back online after the initial data loss.

Following the user account restoration, I added back all user video watch activity that I was able to recover. As I mentioned in a previous post, I was not able to recover everything, but I got all that I could, and it was quite a lot of data!

Users that lost their account prior to the database incident that re-created their account were not modified during this process. User accounts that were restored have a randomly assigned password (because there is no record of passwords), so you will need to go through the “Forgot my password” process in order to access your account: https://www.wibit.net/forgotPassword. Then you can reset your password to whatever you want!

I will begin notifying users that were modified during this process over the next few weeks. Due to the large volume of accounts restored, I want to be sensitive to our users and be able to respond in a reasonable amount of time to questions or issues, therefore, I will keep the email batches to a level where I can work with members of our community on a personal level.

Next steps: I will be working towards restoring Sponsors. The logic is written and has gone through a few rounds of testing, however, it still needs more time to “cook” before I run it in production. I am planning on prorating your sponsorships 2 months, regardless of what type of schedule you have. You will receive details in an email from me once your Sponsorship has been reinstated. Those of you that have already re-sponsored, first of all THANK YOU, secondly, I would like to prorate you as well. Those of you that I worked with individually have already been prorated. Those of you that came back on your own have not received the proration and I would like to reward you for your loyalty and your support. I have taken note of who you are, and when I run this process your first payment will be manually prorated 2 months. For example, if you re-sponsored on September 1st, 2018 you will see that your first payment will have changed to November 1st, 2018. More to come on this when I get there, but I wanted to give you a hint on where I was going.

If anyone has any questions, suggestions, or anything, please contact me at [email protected].

Thanks so much for your support as I continue to work hard to bring the site back!

Gaming Therapy: Preview

Starting next week, I will begin posting some gaming style videos featuring me (Kevin) that I have had in my stash for quite a while. And I want to share them with you while I begin to work on new content.

Data Recovery Effort

Over the last few weeks I have been putting my forensics skills to good use by collecting data from numerous sources to re-populate the WiBit.Net database.
